In the Pearson Edexcel suite of HND/HNC, the difference in intended learning outcomes between level 5 (HND) and level 4 (HNC) is in the number of credits to be obtained, i.e. quantitative rather than qualitative.
Learners must achieve a minimum of 240 credits (of which at least 65 must be at level 4 and at least 125 must be at level 5) to be awarded the level-5 HND. The general approach to the learning process for most modules involves:
Due to the wide variety of modules included in this programme, there may be different approaches adopted that are appropriate for a particular module. At the start of each module, tutors will provide a scheme of work that details the module structure, assessment learning, and teaching approaches to be adopted.
The college has developed a Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle through which the students can access lecture notes and engage with staff and other Business Marketing students.
The purpose of assessment is to ensure that effective learning of the content of each unit has taken place. Evidence of this learning, or the application of the learning is required for each unit. Each unit contains statements of the evidence that each learner should produce in order to receive a ‘pass’. All units are individually graded as ‘pass’ ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’.
To achieve a pass grade for the unit learners must meet the assessment criteria set out in the specifications. The assessments are mostly assignment based which is internally marked by the college. This is checked by the Internal verification section.
The external verification is done by Edexcel.
